I was hanging out playing D&D the other day when I got a call from my Dad. He said we got invited to a screening of a documentary for the Sun Dance Festival. So I packed up and headed home. Me and my Dad drove out to the Ford Amphitheater, sat down in the seats for the people affiliated with Netflix and watched the show.
So it was this documentary about a band called Anvil, they used to be HUGE in the metal world, they influenced bands such as Anthrax and Metallica. These guys grew up in Canada together and started this band with a dream to hit it big, and at the hight of their career they were playing a huge concert in Japan in '84 with bands like Bon Jovi and other big rock/metal names of the time, Anvil being one of the MAIN bands playing. But after that they disappeared, now after all this time director and old fan Sacha Gervasi tracks them down, follows them on their first tour in years through Europe and around their daily lives and their efforts to get back out into the public.
And after the film Anvil came out and performed for us, so after an hour or so of head banging it was time to go home, or so I thought. After that we got invited to a party at the director's house in the Hollywood hills and I got to hang out with Singer - Lips and Drummer - Rob Rheiner. Being able to meet Rob was a big deal for me because I'm a drummer also and he is a brilliant and amazing drummer. he had a 5ish minute drum solo during the concert.
all in all great night, great film, great band, great guys.
